Ujjal Ray, the Assistant Commissioner of Police, South Division has made Bengal proud by scaling the virgin peak of Ladakh along with Everest-scaling champ, Debdas Nandy. A team of nine members set out for the voyage this time in order to explore the cocooned part of Ladakh.

They left Kolkata on 20th July 2018 and two locals supported them in every possible way. Ujjal Ray stated that "The temperature at the peak was around -20 degree Celsius and when we reached the top, there was so much wind that we were unable to open our mouth for a long time". The entire team had to face adverse weather conditions under the chilling winds and heavy rains.

Ujjal Ray has been serving Kolkata Police since 1987 and is a proficient mountaineer. He has already gained accolades for climbing 15 peaks. Ujjal Ray added that "As per my knowledge, no mountaineer has scaled this virgin peak before me. The life-threatening cold weather together with the chilling winds posed as theleading challenge but we were unwavering. There are in fact three such virgin peaks in Ladakh among which we picked this one."
