Trip to Latpanchar

Latpanchar is a stunning place in Darjeeling district of West Bengal where apart from beautiful Mountain View; you will find the entire world of birds. A number of birds visit this place every year and there are a few striking native birds too.

How to reach: If you have some good weekend plans in the hilly areas, then you can travel to Latpanchar by train and get down to NJP. From there you need to take the Sevok Road by jeep or any other four wheelers as you have to travel through narrow lanes. Latpanchar is 44 kms from NJP and can take one and half hour to two to reach. Bagdogra is the nearest airport and from there you can hire cabs or cars to reach Latpanchar.

Where to stay: Latpanchar is not a developed tourist destination till now. This is best suited for the couples as tranquility prevails all over the place. You cannot find expensive or luxurious hotels in Latpanchar, therefore you have to depend on the home stays and private lodging systems. You will also find rented forest house with not much rooms. Here you will find a wide range of cinchona plantation. WBFDC forest rest houses are also available at an affordable price range with updated facilities. The best time to visit Latpanchar is October to May.

What to see: Latpanchar is a beautiful place in Darjeeling district of West Bengal and this will offer you innumerable teak, pine, sal and cinchona plantations. You can go for a walk especially in the mornings. Ahal Dara view point is the place from where you will get the view of the entire region. This place will also give you the opportunity to have the stunning view of Kanchenjunga. The sight of beautiful Teesta River will definitely change the mindset. Don’t miss the Sitong Ornage Orchard and especially Namthing Lake where you will find a lot of unique birds. Salamander is a kind of lizard that is widely found in Latpanchar. Sarsari Dara is another viewpoint. If you are a bird specialist, then you are sure to experience the sight of minla, magpie, king fisher, robins, ashy backed shrike, black bulbul, minivets, spotted eagles, robins, yuhina, drongo, woodpecker and many more.
