A key figure of Bengal's renaissance, the polymath was born on this day. Pandit Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar was a philosopher, a reformer, an educator who dreamed of ‘Sonar Bangla’.

True to his name, he was actually an ocean of knowledge. Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar is a name, you can hear in every Bengali household!

A social reformer who forced the British Government to pass the widow remarriage act. Not only that he was also the one to introduce the concept of admission and tuition fee. Besides all of his pioneering contributions to the academic field, he fought hard for women’s right to education during his era and led us to a new dawn of revolution and independence.
