The ‘Nijoshree’ project

The state government officials are adapting various methods for the upliftment of poor people. The state government has planned to build houses for the poor people living in the urban areas. The honourable Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee has named the project ‘Nijoshree’. An amount of three thousand crore has been allocated for this project and under this project, the middle class people can book flats on the state government’s land. 378-square-foot sized flats have been allocated for individuals whose monthly income is below 15,000. The cost is approximately Rs 7 lakh 78 thousand. The monthly income of individuals below 30 thousand will get two-storey flats. A 559 sq ft flat is worth Rs nine and a half lakh. The flats near Kolkata will be costlier than the flats that have been allotted in the surrounding districts. At present, 50 thousand flats will be built in 10-12 places in North Bengal and South Bengal. The Housing Department has launched a website where they will accept application forms and the flats will be sold on the basis of lottery. The government officials are hoping that this step will play an important role in the upliftment of the poor.
