Tata Steel PGTI returns to Kolkata

The TATA Steel Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI) launched the Bengal Open Golf Championship 2019 in collaboration with West Bengal Tourism and powered by Tollygunge Club on March 12. The tournament is being held at the historic Tollygunge Club and will end on March 15, with the Pro-Am event scheduled on March 16. The tournament boasts of a prize purse of INR 30 lacs.

This is the fourth edition of the TATA Steel PGTI tournament and has witnessed the participation of 126 golfers, including 123 professionals and 3 amateurs, not only from India but also from Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. The top Indian professionals seen at this tournament are SSP Chawrasia (four time European Tour winner), Rahil Gangjee (winner on the Japan Golf Tour and Asian Tour), Viraj Madappa (India’s youngest winner on the Asian Tour), Rashid Khan (two time Asian Tour winner), Aman Raj, Chiragh Kumar, Udayan Mane, and Karandeep Kochar, to name a few. All three leading players, SSP Chawrasia, Rahil Gangjee, and Viraj Madappa call Kolkata their home. The foreign challenge is being led by the Sri Lankan trio of Anura Rohana, N Thangaraja, and Mithun Perera, along with Bangaldesh’s Md Zamal Hossain Mollah.

Talking about the rich golfing legacy of Kolkata, PGTI CEO Mr. Uttam Singh Mundy thanked the West Bengal State Tourism Department and Tollygunge Club for helping in organizing the tournament. News Partner WION is also a part of the organizing body of the tournament. The tournament seeks to promote Kolkata as a major golfing destination which will boost tourism in the state. Tollygunge Club’s 18-hole, par-70, 100-acre championship golf course has been designed by internationally reputed golf architects. Modern equipment and underground irrigation system help maintain the course in top condition throughout the year. Situated in the heart of urban Kolkata, the golf course is an oasis of green.
