Sunil Gavaskar turns 69: Happy Birthday to one of the greatest batsmen in the history of cricket

Sunil Manohar Gavaskar, one of the greatest batsmen in the history of cricket was born on 10th July, 1949. Sunny, the former Indian captain turns 69 today. Gavaskar is widely regarded as one of the greatest opening batsmen in the test cricket history who has set a number of records in his glittering career. The right-hand batsmen had set world records during his career for the most Test runs and most Test centuries. The ‘Little Master’ has represented India in 125 Tests, scoring 10,122 runs at an average of 51.12, he has scored 34 Test centuries and 45 fifties. He was known to have one of the best batting techniques and a solid defense. Gavaskar was admired for his techniques against fast bowling, especially for having a particularly high average of 65.45 runs against West Indies. He was the first Indian cricketer to score more than 700 runs in a series, hitting 774 runs at an average of 154.80 in 1971 against the West Indies. This opening batsman was also a part of the Indian team that won the 1983 World Cup under the captaincy of Kapil Dev. In 1980, the Indian Government honored him with the Padma Bhushan for his outstanding International Career representing Team India. He is also a recipient of Padma Shri.
