Summer to set soon in Bengal

West Bengal has faced erratic weather conditions since the last two weeks due to western climatic disturbances and cyclonic circulations formed in Bangladesh, Orissa and other places in the adjoining regions. This has become a major cause for the delay in a pre-summer weather in Bengal. Kolkata too like other places in Bengal has experienced rainy days and thunderstorms for which the temperature continued to remain low and the cold spell lasted beyond the winter. The Alipore Meteorological department in a report said,

Due to interaction of the cyclonic circulations with western disturbances which originated in the Mediterranean region, the districts of Bengal, including Kolkata, have been spared from the summer heat. The state has witnessed sudden spells of light to high amounts of rainfall accompanied by thunder, lightning and gusty winds over the last two weeks, which has led to relatively cool weather conditions.

The report also added,

Summer will slowly set in over the next few weeks and there will be a gradual climb in temperature. But for that we need a week without any rainfall. For the last two weeks, there has been at least some amount of rainfall.

The average maximum and minimum relative humidity of Kolkata currently stands at 95 percent and 47 percent respectively. The Meteorological Department has predicted that it would be partly cloudy in parts of Bengal including Kolkata for the next 24 hours and if it doesn’t rain significantly, summer will set in soon.
