State to set up cancer centres at three districts

The West Bengal Government has planned to set up state of the art cancer centres in the districts of Murshidabad, Burdwan and Kolkata to provide affordable health care facilities to cancer patients from all backgrounds of the society. Land for one of these cancer centres has already been identified at Baburbag area near Burdwan Medical College and Hospital, construction works will soon start here. The other two centres will be set up at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital and Murshidabad Medical College and Hospital. The cost of construction and setting up of the centres will be provided by the State Government. The new state of the art cancer centres will have different departments like surgical oncology, medical oncology, neuro-medicine, neurosurgery, nuclear medicine, preventive oncology, radiotherapy and cancer diagnostics. A senior Health Department official said, "We will have all the modern facilities for comprehensive care and cancer diagnosis in the proposed hospitals. The construction of the cancer centres is expected to start soon. Both the Burdwan Medical College and Hospital and Murshidabad Medical College and Hospital cater to a number of patients from various parts of the neighbouring districts".
