Special transport services during Puja

The state transport department has made special arrangements for the pandal-hoppers this year, with increased buses and tram services on the days of the Durga Puja. The announcement of these additional services was made by the State Transport Minister Suvendu Adhikari on the side-lines of a program where the Puja Parikrama booklet was unveiled. The Puja Parikrama booklet contains details of the additional services of all the transport corporations. Adhikari said, "There will be additional buses and tram facilities on the days of Pujas till late night to ensure that people are not inconvenienced by any means". Rachhpal Singh, Chairman of West Bengal Transport Corporation (WBTC) and Managing Director of WBTC, N S Nigam were also present during the event. The transport department has come up with a number special Puja packages for people visiting Purulia, Durgapur, Bankura, Siuri, Arambagh and Jhargram. This year, people will also be able to experience idol immersion on the Ichamati river at Taki on vessels. More than 1,600 special busses will operate across the city during the pujas and the tickets can be booked online. The transport minister said, "The Transport department is making all possible arrangements for hassle-free pandal hopping for the Kolkatans. Puja revelers will soak in the festive spirit of some of the leading Pujas in the districts".
