Speak Your Mind 2020: Undeniably a battle of minds!

As Victor Hugo said, the jostling of young minds against each other has this wonderful attribute, that one can never foresee the spark, nor predict the flash. What will spring up in a moment? Nobody knows.

We witnessed the spellbinding spark in the young minds of Adamas University on the 27th of February 2020 in high-spirited and wide-ranging debate “Speak Your Mind 2020” presented by Jiyo Bangla. A vexed issue of ‘Should India continue with death penalty?’ was set as the motion of the debate. The debate was presided over by Dr. Jyotsna Yagnik, Dean, School of Law and Justice and Pro Vice Chancellor, Adamas University and two panelists were present on stage, Mr. Rajat Banerjee, Assistant professor and Dr. Rakesh Kumar Singh, Associate Dean and HOD, School of Law and Justice, who spoke for and against the motion respectively.

The COO of Jiyo Bangla, RJ Rakesh and Chief Editor, RJ Pragya hosted the show and the auditorium was filled with some exuberant students from Law, English and Social Science departments and also some well-read faculty members who participated with much zeal. Some of the participants spoke for the motion that death penalty should be continued, in fact sensitive cases like rape, acid attack should be straight away taken into fast track courts for speedy trials. They put forward some strong arguments, vindicating that verdict should be given within 3-4 days of the crime committed because justice delayed is justice denied. While, the speakers against the motion talked about why death penalty should not be continued in the country. Many questions were raised which called attention of the panelists. It was quite a long and vehement debate which was concluded by Dr. Jyotsna Yagnik, who announced the ‘Best Speaker’ and rewarded the winner. The panelists and judge were felicitated by the team of Jiyo Bangla.

There were some fun moments too. Students who spoke really well were rewarded by chocolates and in the beginning of the show, RJ Rakesh and RJ Pragya set up the mood with their forever charm to make a show successful. There were some hidden talents sitting in the audience, who showcased their artistry by singing some wonderful songs.

More such grand events will be coming your way and for that, keep watching Jiyo Bangla.
