Second phase of Bengal Safari Park

The State of West Bengal happens to be very rich in terms of wildlife. The North Bengal accommodates wild animals like Tiger, Common Leopard, Clouded Leopard, Elephant, Rhino, Himalayan Black Bear, Sloth Bear, Gaur, Sambar, Barking Deer, Spotted Deer, Hog Deer, Wild Boar, Rhesus Monkey, Common Languor, different types of small Cats and Civets, Crocodile, Gharial, Jungle Fowls and a large number of terrestrial and water Birds.

The Bengal Safari Park (North Bengal Wild Animals Park) in Siliguri showcases this faunal diversity of the North Bengal flood plains to the local people and visitors to the region. The Safari Park was inaugurated by the Chief minister of West Bengal in 2016 and it functions according to the standards and norms formulated by the Central Zoo Authority. Now, the work for second phase of this park will commence from the next financial year. This park turned out to be a major attraction to the tourist visiting this area with footfall standing at 3 lakhs last year and the annual revenue generated was Rs 3 crore. State Forest minister Rajib Banerjee said, "We are anticipating the footfall and revenue to cross last year's mark. The Bengal Safari Park is a one of a kind project in Bengal. It is Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's dream project, built jointly by the Forest, Tourism and North Bengal Development departments. It is a major success. The second phase of the project will come up soon".
