Remembering Apu’s Creator.

Satyajit Ray’s famous Apu-trilogy is often cited as the greatest movies in the history of Indian cinema. Stories of those films are based on the renowned Bengali novels written by Bibhuti Bhushan Bandopadhyay: Pather Panchali and Aparajito. He is one of the best authors of his time, his style as a Bengali novelist often compared to Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay. As a Bengali child we had experienced a great time in summer holidays with ‘Chander Pahar’, ‘Aronyak’, ‘Ichhamati’, ‘Heera Manik Jwale’, ‘Meghmallar’, ‘Adorsh Hindu Hotel’. His writings are so revealing even today you can relate with all his characters by reading the novel. In 1951, he was awarded by the Rabindra Puraskar, the most prestigious literary award in West Bengal, after he passed away on 1st November 1950.
