Reliance Foundation Young Champs conducts grassroots talent hunt in rural Bengal

Reliance Foundation Young Champs has launched a new talent hunt programme to provide opportunities to young footballing talent from the grassroots of rural Bengal. The first phase of selections was held in Tarakeshwar High School ground on Thursday. Under this initiative, Reliance will select talented footballers under the age group of 12 years from different villages in India. This phase of selection was being managed by Saroj Kole of Bulbul Coaching Centre at Tarakeshwar High School ground. Under-12 year old footballers from Arambagh Khanakul Srirampore, Konnagar, Nalikul along with many other districts took part in the selection process.

Upon being selected in the first phase of selections, participants will be moved on to the next phase of qualifications for Bengal which will be held in Bidhan Nagar in Kolkata.

Thereafter the selected participants from Bengal will head to Mumbai for the final round of selections to be held amongst the selected young footballers from all over India. Upon clearing the final round of selections, Reliance will provide the selected footballers with camping, training and grooming in their own facilities with quality education in premium English medium institutes. There’s a possibility that a total of 16-17 participants from India will be benefitting from this unique opportunity.

Sabir Ali Mandal who is in-charge of the selections in Reliance Young Champs for this session said that previously when the selections were being held in Kolkata, young footballers from villages of Bengal had to travel all the way to Kolkata. Now Reliance has taken the initiative to reach out to these young footballers by going to their villages. Talented Under-12 footballers from these villages will now get a chance to avail the benefits of Reliance’s in-house- talent development system.

During the selections, Ankan Mukherjee, one of the participants from Arambagh said that this selection procedure was the first of its kind. He has been to Kolkata for trials earlier but it did not work out for him then. He felt very happy that such an opportunity has come knocking at his doorstep.
