Rabindra Bharati University to set up new campus

Rabindra Bharati University is setting up a new campus at New town, which is going to be its third campus. The new campus will feature hostel facilities for international students since Rabindra Bharati University has the highest number of international students in eastern India and the university was facing serious troubles to provide them accommodation. Presently, the university has 186 international students out of the total student strength of 6,175. Sabyasachi Basu Ray Chaudhury, Vice-Chancellor of Rabindra Bharati University said, "The social sector of the state Public Works Department (PWD) has started the construction work for our new campus with a state-of-the-art hostel facility on 7.96-acre land that was handed over to us by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee through the West Bengal Housing and Infrastructure Development Corporation in New Town's Action Area II". A senior university official said, "These students have to stay as paying guests in different parts of the city. We are concerned about their safety and security but as we have no hostel facilities, we can do nothing once they go out of the campus. The new hostel will also have kitchen facilities so that these students can cook food of their own choice". The university also plans to shift some of its courses from its current campus at Jorasanko and BT Road to the new campus after it's completed.
