Places to hit this winter if you’re a birdwatcher

If you are a dedicated birdwatcher, and you love to spot those beautiful creatures through your binoculars, your favourite season is just round the corner. Here are some incredible places that will be just what you need this winter to catch up with your hobby.

Lava and Neora National Park :

Home to a whopping 265 different species of birds, this place is just 35 kms away from Kalimpong. Rare species that include Satyr, the White-tailed robin and the rufous-throated patridge inhabit the jungles. The road from Algarah to Lava is a favourite amongst the birdwatchers.

Eaglenest :

Situated at Arunachal Pradesh, Eaglenest is a heaven for all the birdwatchers. Endangered species like the grey peacock pheasant, Blyth’s tragopan, bugunliocichla, ward’s trogon and many others have been spotted here. Owing to the harsh weather conditions, January to March is the ideal time to visit this spot.

Nameri National Park :

Nameri is rich in terms of bird population, and you should look out for the emerald cuckoo, peregrine falcon, sultan tit and pied falconet in the amidst the towering trees in the forest.

Chilka Lake bird sanctuary :

Chilka is special not only because of the variety of indigenous birds but also the large number of migratory birds that come during the winter. White-bellied sea eagles, marsh harriers and flamingos are spotted near the lake with a little effort.
