Panel discussion on Menstrual Hygiene

To mark the Menstrual Hygiene Day on May 28, Arts4Change, Wild Strawberry and Global Shapers Kolkata Hub have collaborated to bring Kolkata’s First Period Festival, ‘P4Positive. P4Period.’

The event took place on May 26 where a panel discussion was organised aiming at   breaking menstrual taboos, raising awareness about Menstrual Health Management (MHM), catalysing actions to overcome limited access to menstrual products, hygienic toilets, water, soap and disposal infrastructure.

The panel comprised eminent women’s rights activists, social entrepreneurs and other change makers who touch lives of women in community in some way or the other. They were a part of the first session of ‘P4Positive.

P4Period.’ Panel discussion (‘Mashik Baithaki Adda’), art engagements, poetry reading, theatrical performance and anecdotes/personal stories around menstruation were shared in the Story Circle. Priyanka Chatterjee, Founder Director of Arts4Change and International Story Consultant who co- conceptualised and curated the event along with Global Shapers Kolkata Hub, said, “Arts can be the real transforming tool in removing the stigma surrounding Menstruation.” On the Menstrual Hygiene Day, 28 th May, children from lower income groups, slums and NGOs will be distributed Menstrupedia books. It will be an awareness session that has been made interesting with storytelling, games and other activities.

Through these sessions the organisers are hopeful that they reach out to every strata of the society and generate awareness on MHM.
