Organs travelled 170km through green corridor

A 13-year-old girl, Madhusmita Bayen, a resident of Mejia in Bankura slipped into coma and was declared brain dead on Saturday by Durgapur Mission Hospital. On Sunday, a team of doctors of SSKM Hospital travelled to Durgapur Mission Hospital in West Burdwan district and collected her liver, kidneys, and corneas and left for Kolkata in a convoy through green corridor.

 A senior doctor at SSKM informed that the 2 kidneys were expected to be transplanted on 2 patients from Nadia and North 24 Paraganas districts after cross-matching on Sunday midnight. The liver would be transplanted on another patient from North 24 Paraganas and the transplantations would start once the organs reaches there.

Deputy commissioner, Asansol Police Commissionerate, Abhishek Modi said that the organs were transported in a convoy passed through green corridor covering 170-km distance via Panagarh Bypass-Burdwan-Dankuni-Santragachi
