Now Fly to Purulia Via Helicopter from Kolkata

The State Transport Department, West Bengal has always tried to come up with new advantageous ways to benefit the denizens of Kolkata including other districts. The thought of launching this facility was proposed when Hon’ble Chief Minister of West Bengal came across the abandoned Charra Airfield in Purulia.

During her recent visit to Purulia district, she announced the introduction of this helicopter service which will support and promote business in Purulia. It was decided that the helicopter service would be developed under the tutelage of the State Transport Department.

On 3rd July 2018, a successful pilot flight was steered from Kolkata to the Charra Airfield. The Charra Airfield is just 8 km away from Purulia Town. The airfield was last used by the US Air Force during World War II.

As per Sri Suvendu Adhikari, Minister in Charge, Transport, West Bengal, this project intends to use our resources better and promote better business relations between Kolkata and Purulia.
