No respite from heatwaves for South Bengal

The Regional Meteorological Centre at Alipore has predicted that South Bengal districts, including the city of Kolkata will continue to experience the present heatwaves and the discomfort level caused by humidity might rise up in the next two days. The monsoon is yet to arrive in the southern part of Bengal and the temperature might rise up along with the humidity causing discomfort to the people. Districts like Bankura, Purulia and West Midnapore too will witness this heat wave and high humidity. However, North Bengal has started experiencing rainfall and thundershowers are predicted there in the next 48 hours. In spite of North Bengal getting a respite from the hot weather, there is no chance of rainfall in the South Bengal districts, at least not for the next two days. An official of the weather department said, "There will be extremely hot and humid conditions in various South Bengal districts. The temperature will continue to remain above 40 degrees Celsius in Purulia, Bankura, West Midnapore and Jhargram. In other South Bengal districts, the high temperature may remain between 36 and 39 degrees Celsius in the next few days". On the other hand, the rainfall and gusty winds taking place in North Bengal might intensify in the next few days. The Meteorological Department is yet to announce the arrival date of monsoon in South Bengal.
