NKDA sets up cycle docking stations in New Town

The New Town Kolkata Development Authority (NKDA) is going to set up cycle docking stations in New Town for storing rental cycles. NKDA will hire operators through a tender for construction of these docking stations. Both bicycle and e-bicycles will be stored here. The administrative body has decided to set up these docking stations since bulk dumping of rental bicycles took place on the footpaths which were causing problems to the pedestrians. Earlier Zoomcar’s Pedl used to put bicycles on rent on hourly basis in New Town but now there are other bicycle rental services as well. NKDA in order to attain a greener environment has always pushed for the usage of bicycles as a medium of transportation, due to which it has constructed graded paths dedicated to cycles. Setting up of these cycle docking stations is another significant step to boost this mode of transportation. NKDA’s cycle sharing scheme too has earned great success in New Town, especially among youths who take out these rides to places they wish to visit. Due to these high tech infrastructure, bicycles have turned out to be an increasingly popular mode of transportation in this planned city.
