New rule by SC- March 31is no longer a deadline to link your Aadhaar with mobile, bank

The Supreme Court of India has ruled that for now citizens don’t have to link their Aadhar card with bank account, mobile number or even passport. The top court said previously that a biometric identification is must for social welfare schemes, now they even stated, “Government’s demand for Aadhaar’s link to every private and public services is a violation of privacy and the 12 digit unique number given to each citizen of India doesn’t have to be linked to other services for now.”

March 31st was the deadline, which was declared for all bank accounts and mobile phones to be linked with Aadhaar, now Supreme court has extended the deadline, till it is decides whether the Aadhaar Act is illegal or not. India launched Aadhaar process in 2009, which now is the world's biggest biometric database to streamline reduces wastage and welfare payments in public spending. Some technology experts, petitioners even campaigners have raised concern about the privacy and safety of citizen’s assets and misuse of those data.

The apex court which earlier on December 15, 2017, extended the deadline till March 31, 2018, has now extended this deadline indefinitely.
