New members in Alipore zoo!

A group of new members has arrived at the Alipore zoo and they will be making a public appearance soon. A white tiger, a pair of leopards and four yellow anacondas have been brought to the Alipore Zoological Gardens recently. These newly brought animals will be shifted to separate enclosures soon to be displayed for the public. These animals will be kept under observation before being transferred to enclosures.  The four snakes – the yellow anacondas have been brought from the Madras Crocodile Bank and Centre for Herpetology in Mamallapuram near Chennai. They will be kept in colourful enclosures with a patch of Amazonian rainforest on the southwestern corner of the zoo. The enclosure will be full of orchids, ferns and other tropical plants along with sprinklers fitted on the roof for artificial rainfall to be triggered multiple times a day. The white tiger named Rishi was brought from the Patna zoo. Rishi was transferred to Alipore zoo along with three pairs of blackbucks under an exchange programme, in exchange for a female zebra. V.K. Yadav, member-secretary of Bengal Zoo Authority said, “Rishi has been brought in to infuse new blood in the park as most of the male tigers here are fairly old”. Rishi will be kept in a separate enclosure with glass walls and acres of open space on the western corner of the zoo. The pair of leopards, Shishir and Nayan were brought in from the Bengal Safari Park in Siliguri.
