New Governor for Bengal

The President of India has appointed a new governor for West Bengal who will replace the current Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi after his term ends. Jagdeep Dhankhar has been appointed as the new Governor who is scheduled to assume office in the end of July after Keshari Nath Tripathi’s term ends. Jagdeep Dhankhar is a senior advocate of the Supreme Court and a former Janata Dal MP from Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan during 1989-91. Dhankhar was a minister in the Central Government and later he had joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in 2003. He was also an MLA from Rajasthan’s Kishangarh and the President of Rajasthan High Court Bar Association. The To-Be-Governor of Bengal is also a member of the International Court of Arbitration. The Chief Minister of Bengal, Mamata Banerjee has welcomed the appointment of a new Governor in Bengal. She tweeted, "I welcome Sri Jagdip Dhankar who has been appointed as the new Governor of Bengal. I just now came to know from media about this. I welcome him to our beautiful state". Banerjee also tweeted, "Hon'ble Home Minister just now talked to me about appointment of new Governor of West Bengal. I informed him that I have already welcomed the new Governor". The current Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi assumed office back in 2014 for a term of five years and his tenure ends this July, after which the new Governor will be assuming office.
