New AC retiring rooms and dormitories at Sealdah Station

Adding a new feather to its cap, and in a step ahead towards passenger comfort, a pair of air-conditioned dormitories and a two air-conditioned retiring rooms have been inaugurated at Sealdah Station.

The facilities have been recently inaugurated by a female passenger and a female Railway staff member in the presence of the Sealdah division DRM Prabhash Danasena, Group General Manager (eastern zone) of IRCTC Debashish Chandra and other senior officials.

On Bengali New Years’ day, an executive lounge was inaugurated at Sealdah station and it has been running with a lot of success so far. Officials said that there were many commuters who come in the morning and return by the evening, from Sealdah. For them, the new addition to infrastructure would come handy.

IRCTC sources said that one of the two dormitories would be for men and the other for women. The one for men has 28 beds while the female dormitory has 24 beds. Charges for each bed would be Rs 500 for 24 hours and Rs 300 for 12 hours. Charges for the retiring room would be Rs 2000 for 24 hours for two persons and Rs 3000 for the same time for four persons.

IRCTC officials claimed that the retiring rooms have been done up in a manner and with facilities and services in such a way to give a stiff competition to any star-category hotel room.

The dormitory and retiring rooms can be booked through IRCTC website and is expected to raise passenger comfort by several levels. The retiring rooms would be equipped with TV, fridge, provision to brew tea and coffee along with other facilities.

Looking at the demand it generates, provision for two more retiring rooms have been made at the station and if the authorities are satisfied with the demand those would be readied within a couple of months.
