Before delving directing into the reason let’s just admire the sheer grandeur and beauty of the building. The building is built in the Roman style and is believed to be the home of Natta family of the famous Natta Jatra Company. The Natta Company became popular in the mid-twentieth century. There have been jatra companies in the city but Natta Company is a name that still resonates in people’s mind.

That goes about the origin of the house; whose home it was. But it doesn’t explain why it is called ‘Putul Bari’? It is located near Shovabazar jetty. It was actually a warehouse built near the Hooghly river was used for trade activities, and ferry goods like silk, jute, spices, and others. The Roman styled building has classical statues at the top of the building and that has earned the building its name.
