Monsoon to arrive in South Bengal in 24 hours

The monsoon is most likely to arrive in South Bengal in the next 24 hours, according to the predictions of the Regional Meteorological Centre at Alipore. Monsoon will bring in the much awaited respite from the heat waves for the residents of the southern districts of Bengal. The southern part of Bengal has been under a severe heat spell for the last few days where the mercury level kept on rising along with the humidity. Districts like Bankura, Purulia, West Midnapore and Jhargram too faced the tremendous heatwaves. The Regional Meteorological Centre at Alipore has predicted moderate to heavy rainfall for districts like North 24-Parganas, South 24-Parganas, Howrah, Hooghly, East Midnapore and Kolkata in the next 24-48 hours. The monsoon is currently hovering around the Indo-Bangladesh border and might hit South Bengal anytime in the next 24 hours, following which moderate or heavy rainfall will take place. According to the weather officials, the monsoon has arrived quite late this year due to the low pressure troughs which were absorbing vapor from the air.
