Moderate rainfall in Kolkata for two more days

The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) has predicted that the city of Kolkata will continue receiving light to moderate rainfall for the next 48 hours. The meteorological centre has also predicted a formation of a low pressure soon. The current downpour is taking place due to a cyclonic circulation formed over Odisha and Gangetic Bengal. Kolkata has received an average of 4.3mm rainfall each day, for the last few days. Some areas of Kolkata have received heavy rainfall too. GK Das, Director of Regional Meteorological Centre said, “A low-pressure is set to develop over north Bay of Bengal by Sunday. It may intensify further and trigger heavy showers. But till then, Kolkata and Gangetic Bengal will continue to receive drizzles under the impact of the monsoon trough which is now active over Odisha. It has been precipitating short spells of rain across south Bengal, which will continue”. He added, “In Kolkata, monsoon lasts for four-and-a-half months till mid-October. So, there is still time for low-pressures and depressions to form and strike. We already have one brewing over Bay of Bengal and more could follow. Eventually, the deficit may climb down”.
