Misti-Mowa and Bhola Moira

Most of us are familiar with the story Kabliwala or the term Bhola Moira. Do you remember how they used to come up with verses based on the society, creating a third mirror? The unrehearsed satirical songs were composed by him which reflects a great deal about that contemporary societyTwo of the films, Antony Firingi, and Bhola Moira was even featured on the big screen.

But who was Bhola Moira? Well, he was probably born in the year 1775 at Guptipara in Hoogly and ran a sweetmeat shop near Bagbazar Powder Mills by the river. Not many of us know that the inventor of Rosogolla- Nabinchandra Das was married to Bholanath’s grand-daughter by his youngest son. Bholanath left his fascinating creations as an account of his life in his songs. His songs ‘Ami Moira Bhola, Bhiyai(n) Khola/ o go sardi-garmi Nahi mani’ was a grand creation for sure. Surely the song revealed that he earned his livelihood by making Sandesh. During the fall, he made muri-Khoi (puffer-rice) and in summer he offered ghol (a light sugary-salty lassi). Whatever he earned spend it in his poetic endeavour.
