MCHK Gets The Latest Linear Accelerator Machine

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee inaugurated the latest state-of-the-art linear accelerator machine at Medical College Hospital Kolkata (MCHK) via remote control on Friday. Thousands of cancer patients will get benefited with high-end treatment, completely free of cost with this technology. According to Dr. Indranil Biswas, medical superintendent and vice principal at MCHK, trial runs have been conducted with this equipment for the past three months, during which about 30 patients were catered to per day. And gradually, the number of patients availing this facility would increase.

The most advanced and latest version of the Linear Accelerator Machine is capable of destroying the cancer cells with high dose without damaging the peripheral tissues. During the inauguration, MCHK principal Dr. Manjushree Roy and doctors of the radiotherapy department, including Dr. AR Deb the unit head were present. These advanced and sophisticated equipment costs around Rs 25 crore each and the state has acquired two more such machines so that more patients would be able to receive state-of-the-art treatment and in a short period of time.
