Marathon’s – The latest trend in Kolkata

Running for several causes is what Kolkata is doing at present. Pinkathon, Ananda run, Siddha Kiddathon, Tata Steel Kolkata 25k, Kolkata mini marathon, Patriot run, IDBI Federal Life Insurance Full Marathon these are a few in which Kolkata runs for a cause. The most eminent of all these was the one organized by Kolkata Police for the first time near Eden Gardens in the month of June for the noble cause of “Anti-Drug Day”

Among these the IDBI Federal Life Insurance Full Marathon is the largest one in Eastern India. Kolkata proudly hosts the full marathon which happens once a year. The marathon starts from Red Road and goes around various historic places in Kolkata including Park Street and Maidan.

However all these marathons have various categories and have several inspiring stories. One of the most heart touching stories worth a share would be of Rishabh Saraogi’s, who is a 30 year old cancer victim and takes leave from his office for 6months for his chemotherapy sessions. He has successfully run the half-marathon conducted by IDBI Federal Life Insurance Kolkata Marathon 2017. He proudly flaunts the finisher’s medal after completing his run of 21kms. What can be a bigger motivation than this? Then Rupayan Roy, 43years, is the one who is to be mentioned. Rupayan Roy who had a heart transplant in July 2016 ran a distance as long as 21kms in the BSF Kolkata Half Marathon, which is the run for martyr’s.

‘Run for a cause’- people in Kolkata are indeed running for a cause. The city of joy knows what warmth and motivation really looks like. Running for cancer, for education, for martyrs and various other reasons Kolkata shows joy and oozes positivity and motivation in every field.
