Majherhat bridge collapse: New structure to replace the damaged structure

On Friday, the Hon'ble chief minister of West Bengal talked about the Majerhat bridge replacement. She stated that the new one will take its place "within a year”. At a press conference she said, "The committee which is monitored by the chief secretary has placed a proposal regarding the removal of the remaining portion. The new bridge is scheduled to start within a month and will be done by a year under the direct supervision of the chief secretary.” The announcement that was made keeping the recommendation of a private infrastructure company in mind. They examined the stability of the bridge at the government's request. An engineer in the team said the design of the bridge is quite different from the modern designs. The government is already working on two roads to establish the north-south link. The state government has decided to give the contract to Mackintosh Burn Ltd, a public sector company, instead of inviting bids. The proposed new bridge will be having six piers that would work as the support system.
