Low intensity earthquake hits Bankura

A low-intensity earthquake of 4.8 Richter Scale had recently hit the district of Bankura, on Sunday, May 26 at around 10:39 am. The earthquake though low in intensity had triggered panic among the residents but no casualties or injury was reported. The earthquake had also hit the districts of Birbhum, West Burdwan and Purulia. The epicenter of this earthquake was located 10 Km below the surface of latitude 23.3 degrees North and longitude 86.9 degrees East. The low-intensity tremors, however, did not have any major impact on the district and no damages were reported. But people were initially terrified and they panicked as soon as they felt the tremors. Many of the residents left their houses and waited outside for quite a long period of time to avoid any catastrophe. The earthquake, however, did not last long enough and people returned to their homes uninjured.
