KP to keep a tab on school buses

The Kolkata Police has decided to keep a tab on school buses following an accident that took place in the city which involved a school bus. The school bus carrying children was involved in an accident in Chitpore two days back. It was later found that the bus didn’t have a fitness certificate and the road tax was not up to date. Also the driver of the bus did not have a license on him; he pitched in for the last two days in place of the original bus driver which went unnoticed. As a result of this, Lalbazar has asked all the officers-in-charge of police stations of the city to coordinate with the traffic department in order to go after such school buses without fitness certificates. The Transport Department of the State Government too has asked the traffic department to carry out severe checks on the school buses to make sure they have proper fitness certificates. The school buses are generally not stopped by traffic sergeants for routine checks because parents would often complain that their children were being made to wait unnecessarily. This is why a lot of these commercial vehicles manage to ply around the city without proper fitness certificates. Officers from now on have been instructed to impound any such vehicles running without proper fitness certificates.
