KP installs cameras at homes in New Alipore

Keeping in mind the vulnerable condition of the elderly people living alone in the city of Kolkata, the Kolkata Police has started a new project of installing CCTV cameras at homes of these senior citizens. The project has been started in the area of New Alipore under the jurisdiction of the New Alipore Police Station as a trial, if this project works out as per the expectations it would be implemented in other areas of the city as well. These CCTV cameras will help the police to capture and monitor irregular or suspicious activities in and around the houses of these senior citizens. This will prevent intruders to break in into any house because of round the clock vigilance. The CCTV cameras which are being installed are infra-red enabled and are being installed by the local police station at a subsidised price of Rs 2,500. Wi-fi enabled cameras are also available which come at a cost of Rs 3,500. Almost 100 elderly residents of New Alipore have agreed to install these CCTV cameras with the help of the Kolkata Police. Jayati Goswami, 69 happens to be one of those senior citizens who installed CCTV cameras in her house, she said, “Last week during a meeting with cops, New Alipore police station officers proposed the idea to install CCTV cameras at our homes to record any kind of suspicious activity. I immediately agreed. And the very next day the police installed the camera at the landing of the staircase of my house”.
