Kolkata Gears Up for Magic Fair 2019

Kolkata is ready once again to helm its Magic Fair of the year, starting from 28th March. Considered as Asia’s biggest and world’s sole magic fair, in term of participation, it attracts a massive number of artists participating from Several parts of Bengal and other states, and neighboring countries as well. This year though, over 800 magicians from 11 States and from Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh as well as the UK are expected to be attending the fair.

This year the Magic Fair is to be held at Mohar Kunja grounds, a 4-day event starting from 28th March. A 4-day event with magic museum presented by magician Sailseswar and all-day workshops as well. According to reports, the theme of this year’s fair is ‘No War, Only Peace’, and the message will be transmitted to the massed through the means of a fusion of drama and magic, apart from a proper show. The president of the Federation of Indian Magic Associations, Sanjay Chatterjee believes that magic can be used as a means to communicate and that will help in developing the theme.

Chatterjee first got interested in the field by reading a book by Ganapati Chakraborty named ‘Jadu Bidya’. But later, being concerned about the diminishing popularity of magic and decrease in the maintaining a livelihood through magic, he along with his acquaintances, started the magic fair and it indeed was an immediate success and a breakthrough for all associated with magic. This year, the attractions of the show are fire arts, and animation, conjuring acts, magic prop shops, and indigenous magic acts.
