The Urban Development Department of KMC has tied up with Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) for installation of these smart LED streetlights. The installation will be completed in phases and approximately 60,000 LED lights will be installed in Bankura, Beldanga, Budge Budge, Khardah and Durgapur in the first phase. These smart LED streetlights will reduce carbon emissions by 8,500 metric tons and will save 12.2 million units of electricity annually. Venkatesh Dwivedi, Director of EESL said, "Bengal is a testament to the great partnership between EESL and the department of Urban Development & Municipal Affairs, with their shared vision of achieving greater energy efficiency and sustainability. We are confident that we will replicate this success across other districts of Bengal as well. We are committed to successfully implement this programme across the state to enable energy efficiency for all".
