Kiran Kumari Das, a different topper!

The ICSE results were out a few days ago and we have come to see new faces topping the exams and their success stories. But this girl’s story is a bit different from others. An 18-year-old girl who is frequently forced by her mother to get married, daughter of a sweeper and a student who studies under the street light has topped the ISCE examination with 90.4 percent! Kiran Kumari Das is a class apart, not for her success in the board examination but because of her determination to fight the challenges that life throws at her. Kiran, a student of St. Paul’s Mission School where his father works as a sweeper has scored a whopping 90.4 percent in spite of the difficulties that she faces in her daily life. She has scored 80 in English, 85 in Hindi, 88 in both History and Civics and 92 in Environmental Science without consulting any private tutor or costly guide books. Kiran doesn’t mind her father’s profession of a sweeper and believes in equal opportunities for women, she dreams to be successful in her life someday. This girl with all her difficulties in life has ranked second in the commerce section of her school.
