Karnataka’s Plea Rejected by SC in Cauvery Water Sharing

On Wednesday, the Supreme Court rejected the plea by Karnataka and postponed the Cauvery water sharing case to July. It happened right after it was said that the state was without a Government.

The Kerala Government objected to centre’s draft scheme. According to them, they get only 4% water but they are expected to shell out 15% of the cost. The control of the reservoirs and dams should be there with the state as opposed to the Cauvery Management Board. The objections were also disallowed by the court.

Tamil Nadu and Karnataka have been fighting over this river for more than over a century now. The government put the draft scheme before the court on Monday. That charted the directions that the court offered on 16th February. On that day the Supreme Court abridged the amount of water Karnataka was ordered to supply to TN by 14.75 thousand million cubic litres.
