Hon’ble Chief Minister of Bengal, Smt. Mamata Banerjee declared Kalimpong as the 21st district of West Bengal on 14th February. In one of her facebook posts, she wrote: Heartiest congratulations and best wishes to all my brothers and sisters of Kalimpong. Today is truly “Kalimpong Day”.
“We will work together for development of the new district, creating jobs for our young generation, turning around the economy and making Kalimpong a world-class tourist destination as well. My best wishes to all once again,” Mamata Banerjee further added.
Smt. Mamata Banerjee further announced:
- 220 crore road link project to connect Kalimpong with Sikkim through the old Silk Route.
- 50 crore water supply project to address Kalimpong’s water scarcity.
