JU to help Kashmiri students

The Jadavpur University administration has recently decided to provide hostel accommodation to students from Jammu and Kashmir immediately for security reasons. A new student usually has to wait for atleast a month and a half after admission to seek hostel accommodation, but keeping in mind the intense political situation, the university has decided to provide immediate accommodation. Rajat Ray, the dean of students said, “Once the admission season is over, we get a clear picture. Besides, we want students from all three faculties to move in together. This time we are effecting a change for the students from Jammu and Kashmir because of security reasons”. Outstationed students who come for admissions generally stay at rented accommodations temporarily before settling in, but this time it might not be too safe for these outstationed students from J&K to live in temporary accommodations. In this regard a university official said, “Given what has happened in Kashmir, staying outside the campus could be risky. What if they came under attack? We do not want to take chances in this situation. They will be safe in the hostel”. The student’s union has also set up helpline numbers for those students hailing from J&K, which are - 9674215401, 9073597778, 7980404657 and 9641983837.
