Howrah-Lad Creates Records

Life was never easy for Howrah's Rimo Saha, who lost his right leg to Polio. But that didn't stop him from crossing the Catalina Channel in the USA, he crossed the Catalina Channel twice within three days making a record. Rimo was part of a team of seven, they started off from the St. Catalina Island and finished at Rancho Palo Verdes within the record time of 11 hrs and 33 minutes. The distance is about 20.2 miles or approximately 35 kilometers which Rimo covered twice within three days. In 2018 Rimo crossed the English Channel in a marathon swim and now this; the entire state is just beaming with immense pride. Rimo returned to his home in Howrah on Monday where everybody was waiting to celebrate his victory.

The Minister of State for Sports Department, Laxmi Ratan Shukla, who is also the MLA of the district of Howrah reached the Howrah station to welcome and honor him, he was also honored by the Howrah City Police. Catalina is as challenging as the English Channel and one of the most popular open water marathon swims. Rimo shares that there were sharks, jellyfish, stingrays, and dolphins. To avoid the sharks they applied white grease all over their body. they were even accompanied by a dolphin for some time. Besides Rimo the Indian Para-Swimming team had five others; Satyandra Singh (Gwalior), Jagdish Chandra (Rajasthan), Chetan (Maharashtra), Anjani Patel (Chattisgarh), and Gita Choudhary (Maharashtra) with Rohan More as their coach.
