How is MS Dhoni now after undergoing knee surgery in Mumbai?

Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the former captain of the Indian Cricket Team, successfully underwent left knee surgery at a Mumbai hospital on Thursday, June 1. This raises hopes for his participation in the next IPL 2024 tournament.

MS Dhoni, who led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to their fifth IPL title, defending Gujrat Titans (GT), travelled to Mumbai from Ahmedabad after the final on Monday, May 29, and consulted renowned sports orthopaedic surgeon Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala, who is also on the BCCI medical panel and has previously performed surgeries on top Indian cricketers, including Rishabh Pant.

Throughout the previous IPL season, Dhoni played with heavy strapping on his left knee. Still, he has given service to the team despite his knee pain. It was seen that Dhoni’s wicket-keeping skills were unaffected, but he often used to bat at a lower position and was seen uncomfortable while running between the wickets.

After the IPL 2023 final, Dhoni said he would return for one more season for his fans if his health condition allowed him to play. He said, "If you circumstantially see, it’s the best time to announce retirement. The easy thing for me to say is thank you and retire. But the hard thing to do is to work hard for nine months and try to play one more IPL season. The body has to hold up. But with the amount of love I have received from CSK fans, it would be a gift for them to play one more season."

"The way they've shown their love and emotion, it's something I need to do for them. It's the last part of my career. It started over here, and a full house was chanting my name. It was the same thing in Chennai, but it will be good to come back and play whatever I can. They feel they can play the kind of cricket I play. There's nothing orthodox about it, and I like to keep it simple."

CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan confirms that Dhoni had successful knee surgery and is doing fine. The surgery took place in the morning at the Kokilaben Hospital in Mumbai on Thursday, June 1. Another anonymous CSK source told PTI that Dhoni has already been discharged from the hospital after a keyhole surgery for ‘arthroscopic repair’. The source also mentioned that Dhoni would rest at home for a few days before his extensive rehabilitation programme started.

It is now expected that Dhoni will have enough time to get fit to play in the next IPL season.
