Heard of sleeping village?

Most of us have visited the Darjeeling district but we actually ignored few of the most beautiful places in Darjeeling district of West Bengal. Have you heard of Silery Gaon? It is actually a very small village in the district of Darjeeling. The entire village is surrounded by pine forests and is in fact at a height of 6000ft.

How to reach: If you get down at NJP or Bagdogra airport, all you need to do is to hire a cab or taxi to reach Pedong. Silery Gaon is just a matter of 30 minutes’ drive from Pedong. You are free to take cars to Kalimpong and get a shared taxi to Pedong. You can visit the place at any time of the year but winter is actually the unsurpassed time to visit Silery Gaon.

What to see: Winter is the most favourable time to visit Silery Gaon because this time will offer you the sizzling view of Kanchenjungha. Sangchen Dorjee Monastery and the wall paintings of Tantrik Buddhism are worth a watch. You will also find the mummified body of the holy Bhutanese priest. If you want to enjoy the Chyam dance that takes place during the month of April May, then make sure you visit Silery Gaon during the summer. Take a tour to Cross Hill near Pedong, Shahid Park, Rikisum (viewpoint), Kashyone village and many more. If you have time in hand don’t miss Reshi Khola and Reshi Bridge. The lampokhri or Aritar Lake is a famous tourist spot near Silery Gaon.

Where to stay: If you are visiting Silery Gaon then the best place to stay is the homestay. It is perfectly upgraded with latest activities. The rooms are furnished and western toilet is also there. As Silery Gaon is a small village, you will not find hotels or resorts over there. Foods will be offered by the people of the home stay only.
