What was the real cause of Sridevi’s untimely demise?

Sridevi who passed onto the great beyond on Saturday in Dubai had reportedly drowned in the bathtub of the hotel where she was staying. The autopsy report released by the Health Ministry of Dubai listed “accidental drowning” as the actual cause of her death as opposed to the earlier reports of cardiac arrest. The 54 year old actress was attending the wedding of Mohit Marwah in Dubai along with her family. She is survived by her husband Boney Kapoor and daughters Jhanvi and Khushi.

Sridevi was known for her versatility in Bollywood, be it her superb acting or her unmatched dancing and comic timing. She will be forever remembered for her roles in movies such as Mr.India, Nagina, Sadma, Chandni, Lamhe, Inquilab, Khuda Gawah and many other movies which helped her become one of the biggest stars of Bollywood during the 80’s and 90’s. Even after taking a long break from cinema, in recent years she made a successful comeback to Bollywood with superhit movies like English Vinglish (2012) and MOM (2017) which unfortunately will remain the last we saw of her in movies.

Sridevi was honoured with the Padma Shri award in the year 2013 for her contribution to Indian cinema. She was also voted as ‘India’s Greatest Actress in 100 years’ in a poll conducted by CNN-IBN earlier during the 100th anniversary celebration of Indian Cinema.

Social media is flooding with condolences from Bollywood celebrities with everyone shocked at her untimely passing away:

Preity Zinta expressed her sadness by writing “Heartbroken & shocked to hear that my all time favourite #Sridevi is no more. May god give peace to her soul & strength to the family #RIP.

Priyanka Chopra wrote “I have no words. Condolences to everyone who loved #Sridevi. A dark day. RIP

Sidharth Malhotra wrote “Really shocked and disturbed to hear that Sridevi Ma’am is no more #RIP #Sridevi.

Sushmita Sen wrote “I just heard Ma’am Sridevi passed away due to massive cardiac arrest. I am in shock…can’t stop crying…”

We find it very difficult to believe that the ‘Hawa Hawai’ actress we all have grown up watching is no more. We wish this is one of those celebrity death hoaxes widely perpetuated through the internet.

A couple of lines from Sridevi’s song in ‘Jaanbaaz’ sums up the lovely memories Sridevi is leaving here with us: ‘Khushnaseeb hai woh, jinko hai mili yeh bahaar zindagi mai’…
