Girl from Kolkata to represent India in the 25th Asian Juniors Squash Championship

Tanaya Parakh is the first teenager from Kolkata to be selected to represent India in the 25th Asian Juniors Squash Championship.

Conversing with Jiyo Bangla, the talented lady said, “Squash is more like rejuvenation for me. Playing the sport taught me several things like how to deal with taught situation, pressure, anxiety, laziness and boredom.”

The Squash Rackets Federations of India (SRFI) said Tanaya will represent India this year under 19 categories. The class 12 student from Modern High School for Girls made not only her parents but Bengal proud too. It is the first time in Indian squash that two sisters from Kolkata, Tanaya and Taggya Parekh got into the national team for the Asian Juniors.

The interesting part is, both of them also set the mark by becoming the first sisters to have been called up in the national preparatory camp. When we asked about her future plans, she smiled and said, “I want to pursue economic studies in the US and continue my squash practice simultaneously. This is who I am and I don’t want to change myself.”

Tanaya’s current rank is No.4 in India and on Asian platform she holds the position of no.10. She will compete again for the Asian squash International championship in July.
