Forest Bathing at Kohora

The goal of forest bathing is to calm down and become engrossed in the natural environment present there, tune in to the smells, tastes, textures and sights of the forest. Drive in our surroundings by using all our senses. You will walk the forest trails, but you will meander with no particular destination in mind.

We all crave for nature. Sea, shell, waves, sand, trees, forests, rivers, mountains and everything that exists. It is mainly because we humans share a deep relationship with nature from our pre-historic lives. That is why when are in midst of greenery, it soothes our eyes and brings peace of mind as city life takes its toll and you desire to go back to the roots. Kaziranga embraces abundant small water bodies and is a vast spread of tall elephant grass, marshland, and thick tropical forests.

But why only Kohora? Located on the banks of the mighty Brahmaputra, it is mystic, has an enchanting freshness and the woods are alluring. And more importantly the dusk at kohora range! Such a view it was. One has to experience it oneself, as words can't describe this view. Also, you will notice that the Moon never sets here. Even in the afternoon, the moon is clearly visible.

Thrilling jungle safaris on an elephant is one of the major tourist attractions. The Park has a set of about 25 trained elephants and authorized Mahouts who conduct the ride in the early hours of the dawn in the Kohora range. One could see wild Elephant herds wandering around or Indian Rhinos leisurely walk past visitors casually which makes wildlife viewing enjoyable. But don’t forget to feed bananas and be kind to the elephants. An elephant safari allows you to get closer to the wild animals. However, it's very difficult to capture photographs while atop an elephant because they are constantly shuffling their feet even when standing still, so the swaying movement is perennial.

Jeep safari helps a person to discover the flora and fauna of the forest in an exquisite manner. You should try and catch the first ride of each shift as the animals tend to hide after the first tour is over. The travellers are not allowed to get down from the jeep at any point in the park but few of the viewing points that are approved by the government One can hire a Jeep from travel agencies, hotels or private tour guides but you should go with the government one as they look after the welfare of the park and the wildlife. And we can do our best to conserve them.

If you want to discover the mystery, master the doing of nothing, and gain illumination. Forest bathing works similarly: Just be with trees. No hiking, no counting steps on your phone. You can sit and meditate or ponder, but the point is to relax rather than accomplish anything. The State of Zen you can achieve in a forest is due to various essential oils, generally called phytoncide, found in wood, plants, and some fruit and vegetables, which trees released into their surrounding protect themselves from germs and insects. Forest air doesn’t just feel fresher and superior—inhaling phytoncide seems to actually enhance and improve immune system function.

Just sit there and close your eyes and when you open them the green will look much greener and you’ll notice things you have missed before-the flutter of birds, the ripple of the water, the swaying of trees.
