Five new books by mamata banerjee to be released at book fair

Five books penned by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will be released at the 43rd edition of International Kolkata Book Fair. These books would be of poetries, stories and one on Urdu shayari.

On Monday general secretary of the organising Publishers and Book Sellers Guild Tridib Chatterjee said that after the inauguration of the book fair on January 31, on February 2 Lepcha Divas would be observed at the fair.

On February 10 Bangladesh Divas will be observed in the presence of four eminent writers from Bangladesh. About 41 publishers from Bangladesh would be partaking in the fair this year.

In a first, the environment department will also have a stall at the fair this year. It was also found out that Gate No 1 will be that of harmony, numbers 4 and 5 will be of the theme country Guatemala.

Organisers also said that the fair area will be increased this year so that there is more space between the stalls for visitor to go around. One of the attractions this year is that four of the lucky visitors would get a library as prize. Along with a cupboard to keep the books, the winners will get gift vouchers worth Rs one lakh to purchase books of their choice. Everyday, a coupon would be issued against purchase of books worth Rs 1,000 everyday and after every three days, one lucky person will stand to win book voucher worth Rs 1 lakh. It has been aimed at increasing the habit of reading especially among youngsters who are more hooked on to smartphones.

State fire services minister Sujit Bose inspected the fire fighting arrangements of the fair and conducted a meeting with guild members. He said that everyday four fire engines would be present at the fair ground. It has also been advised to use better quality of wires at the fair.
