Kolkata is all set to get its first puzzle car parking system with Kolkata Police building a three-tier parking facility under the Gariahat Flyover between the Dover Lane-Gariahat Road crossing and the South East Division’s traffic outpost. Puzzle parking is a fully automated parking system which enables horizontal and vertical movement of parking slots to park and retrieve cars. It is a fully automated system which can be installed to get over issues related to limited parking space. Kolkata Police is building this three-tier parking system to get over parking issues faced around Gariahat, one of the busiest shopping hubs of the city. The new parking system will have space for 32 vehicles whereas earlier only 12 cars could be parked in that same space. Simpark Infrastructure Private Limited is conducting the construction and installation of the multilevel parking system which will be divided into two blocks, each consisting of 16 slots. The top tiers of the facility will have slots for six cars and the other two tiers will have five each. An official of the Simpark Infrastructure Pvt. Ltd. Said, “Civil construction work such as building the foundation is underway. The mechanical portion is all pre-fabricated. The parts will be brought here and fitted together. The parking facility will come up in the 7.5m gap between the road level and the flyover. Cars on the lowest tier will be a little below the road. Or else, the three tiers cannot be built there”. Earlier, it was a menace to manage parked cars due to inadequate parking spaces available around Gariahat which often led to parking attendants charging more than the usual rates to fil in their own pockets. Drivers even parked their vehicles in lanes and by-lanes around the Gariahat crossing, in front of people’s houses and garages which caused trouble frequently. This state-of-the-art parking facility will resolve those problems. The facility is expected to be inaugurated by July.
