Fire And Emergency Services To Be Reformed

The Fire and Emergency Services are to be reformed for the betterment of the employees. The State Government under the leadership of Mamata Banerjee has taken the initiative of setting up West Bengal Fire and Emergency Services Welfare Board. After the State Police Services, the focus is now on the fire brigade department. The announcement was made after a cabinet meeting at Nabanna. The State Fire Minister also mentioned that the board will be advising on the ways to facilitate the employees with privileges. The firefighters put life at risk and carry out important tasks irrespective of the time and hour of the day. Apart from central welfare boards, separate district boards would be set up. The director general of Fire Services is set to become the chairman of the board. And the members would constitute ‘maintenance superintendents, station officers, chief mobilization officers, fire operators and drivers of fire tenders’.
