Extended Metro Services on Weekends

The Kolkata Metro since its inception in 1984 has been one of the important transport systems connecting the entire metro city from north to south, while other lines are in progress connecting other parts of the metro city. The metro railways made several upgradations in the past 34 years, working on their services for easing the travel for the general public. But the number of commuters has increased in the last few years as well, which propelled the railways to increase trains on weekdays.

However, still, the rush on the weekends was in need of urgent attention, for which Kolkata Metro is set to extend its services on weekends from 1st of July. In a circular issued by Metro Railway authority mentioned all the necessary changes done or yet to be donned, including the expansion of services. There will be 12 more rakes available on Saturdays and Sundays to have 14 more rakes added to the schedule. 7 trains added to the schedule will ease the crowd on Saturdays, while on Sundays there will be 9 extra trains as well.

Three more trains will be added between Dum Dum and Noapara on weekdays. While currently, 284 rakes run between the Dum Dum and Kavi Subhash on weekdays while the weekend tally will be 236 from July 1. On Sunday, metro services will also be available from 9 a.m. onwards, instead of 9:50 a.m.
